Lorraine Rimmelin - Watercolors

I never painted a landscape or sketched the likeness of a flower my entire life but I have always been an artist. At an early age I became a hairdresser. I liked the idea of working with hair & makeup, being around lots of people on a daily basis and working in a creative field. This career choice gave me many years of being an artist by designing and coloring hair. I was the diva of long hair, designing the most beautiful up swept styles, turning the ordinary into the extraordinary.

I always felt I would like to paint someday and finally, several years ago I started attending watercolor workshops. I struggled in the beginning not having any prior art training, but continued forward because I loved the process of working with watercolors.

I joined the South Bay Art Association in Bellport to feel connected to other artists in the community. I felt that this would help me grow as an artist and allow me to enter my art in local shows.

Over the Memorial Weekend the South Bay Art Association held it’s 52nd annual members exhibition in Bellport at the community center. There were over 135 pieces of art on display in different categories. Unexpectedly, after entering 3 pieces into the show I was notified that in the watercolor category I had won not only 1st place but 2nd place as well. Needless to say, I was shocked and overjoyed to be awarded these ribbons for my artwork.

Today I am an artist living on the shore of Mastic Beach surrounded by sky, water and local wildlife. As an artist I have a love and passion for capturing nature in all it’s seasonal colors and attitudes. This creates in me a desire to share this with others through the art of watercolor.
